Pequi (Caryocar brasiliense) is a Brazilian fruit with outer skin surrounding the flesh, which in turn surrounds a dangerously spiky pit. Eating whole fruits (raw or cooked) is said to be tricky because you have to carefully avoid the sharp spines of the pit.
Keenan hasn't had whole fruits, only jarred sliced fruit from La Azteca #2 Market. The flavor has a blue-cheese-like quality similar to nance or noni, but not as strong as either of those. More buttery notes, and it lends a great flavor when cooked with rice.
