Synonyms

See Flowering plant.

The angiosperms include almost all edible plants. The non-angiosperm edibles (pine nut, Ginkgo nut, ferns, seaweeds which aren't technically plants...) are the exception rather than the rule. The average person could go quite a while without eating any gymnosperm plants, but almost never has a meal that doesn't include angiosperms.

Angiosperms

Amborella (not edible?)

Nymphaeales (water lilies)

Austrobaileyales (contains star anise and a few other little-known edibles e.g. Kadsura and Schisandra)

magnoliids (Avocado, bay laurel, black pepper, cinnamon, and others)

Chloranthales (rare medicinal plants e.g. Sarcandra glabra)

monocots (huge)

Ceratophyllum (perhaps edible? not commonly eaten)

eudicots (huge)
