An attractive plant in the ginger order Zingiberales with no close relatives outside its genus, Canna contains only one domesticated edible species, known as achira (C. discolor / C. edulis). It's a close relative of the common garden canna Canna indica.
Keenan has tried some homegrown achira tubers but the plants didn't do so great and they may have been harvested at the wrong time, because they were quite tough.
