Cauliflower is a variety of Brassica oleracea grown for its large dome-shaped inflorescence heads, which are often white, or other non-chlorophyll colors like purple. It is similar to broccoli in that both are B. oleracea varieties prized for their dense, tender masses of flower bud tissue.
