Miner's lettuce or Indian lettuce is one of the most plentiful and delicious wild greens in California. It's available in winter and early spring when other greens may be hard to find, and it's very rich in vitamin C.

The non-inflorescence leaves completely encircle the stems, hence the species name perfoliata ("through-the-leaf").
