Guariroba is a palm eaten in Brazil. The young palm hearts (palmitos) are the main product, but the fruit may also be eaten. They are quite bitter compared to common palm hearts.

Palmitos de Guariroba jarred in brine were purchased from a Latin American market. Some were boiled for 15 minutes and the rest was marinated overnight in a salt and vinegar solution. Both techniques cut the bitterness but did not eliminate it.

The texture was wonderful; they are delicious hearty & buttery palm hearts, just... bitter.
