Long, slender fern fiddleheads were purchased from an old woman in Bali who spoke very little English. The cooks back at the resort identified it as "pakis" and kindly prepared it two different ways with Balinese spice paste. It was tender and delicious.

Based on images online and the popularity of this species in Southeast Asia, it is tentatively identified as Diplazium esculentum, the vegetable fern or paku.
