Sea beans (Salicornia spp.) are the succulent stems of a halophyte wetland plant that grows in salty lagoons and marshes. The texture is sort of like a crisp, watery green bean. They are sold as a vegetable at some markets (e.g. Berkeley Bowl), and served at upscale restaurants.
There's a significant amount growing (large enough to forage without putting a dent in it) near Bolinas Lagoon.
