Huacatay or black mint is an herb in the daisy family used in Peruvian cuisine to flavor sauces.

A jar of huacatay paste was tasted and used to make a sauce similar to opoca. The flavor of the huacatay is slightly mint-like but would never be confused with spearmint or peppermint. It also has notes of green tea or maybe basil?
