The family has been treated as a series of five tribes by Engler, and later into [[subfamilies]] by Takhtajan, as [[Anacardioideae]] (including tribes Anacardieae, Dobineae, Rhoeae,and Semecarpeae) and [[Spondioideae]] (including tribe Spondiadeae).
